Come see the next generation of the CCSP (Community College Strategic Planner)!  You will learn how to use the new “one-click” reports and integrated IPEDS data to save time and give your college the data it needs to lead your local economy.

                                    Break Out II: Calculating Transfers for IPEDS: Dr. Rex Clay, Gaston College

                                    The purpose of the presentation is to demonstrate a procedure to use SAS software to report COHORT students to the National Student Clearinghouse and then use its information to count the number of COHORT students who transferred to 2 and 4-year colleges prior to completion.  It is of the utmost importance to report the number of students who transfer out prior to graduation.  Otherwise, they will be counted as noncompleters, thus artificially lowering the graduation rate reported to IPEDS, and often to the media and legislature.

                                    Break Out III: 10 Things to Know About SACS: Dr. John Gossett, Mayland

The Compliance Certificate is the internal check of the organization that begins the reaffirmation process.  Learn ten things to do (or not do) as you navigate the process of determining – and documenting – the extent of your institution’s compliance.

10:15 am                    Break Out IV: Online Surveys: A Panel Discussion: Dr. Polly Davis, Fayetteville TCC; Dr. Ramona Kearney, Lenior CC; Dr. Rex Clay, Gaston College; Emily Williamson, Western Piedmont CC; Earl Hawkins, Lenoir CC; Kimberly Blue, Sandhills CC.

Six planners at different stages in their college’s online survey/evaluations will discuss their unique systems, share start-up struggles, offer suggestions to ensure stress free sessions with faculty, and emphasize the benefits of this streamlined approach to using technology to our advantage.

                                    Break Out V: FTE Cost Centers: Dr. Janice Gilliam, Haywood CC

An overview of various reports produced for critical decision making will be presented.  A major objective will be to share how we have used technology at HCC to improve the efficiency of gathering reports.  Access, Excel, and SPSS are all used to manipulate the data to produce reports.  We will also share our “homegrown” strategic planning model, now in the third year of implementation.

                                    Break Out VI: From IR Office to the Classroom: Dr. John Quinley, Isothermal CC.

Assessment efforts maintain buy-in and foster wider improvement when the effort is shifted from indirect measures of student learning and the IR office to direct measures of student learning and the classrooms of faculty members.  This presentation will share the progress made by Isothermal Community College in making this change of focus.  Information will be provided from the college’s self-study documents.

The fundamental task of any leader is change. Otherwise, who needs a leader? Understanding a college's culture and creating an environment that welcomes and rewards change is essential for leaders at all levels who wish to guide their institution successfully into the future.

1:30 PM                     Break Out VII: Introducing Class Climate from Scantron:  Glen Evans

Class Climate is Scantron's ultimate tool for survey-based evaluation in education. It allows you to conduct hundreds of surveys using a mixed online and paper approach through a central server. Distributed scanning and a web-based form designer add additional functionality for distributed campus environments. Class Climate handles questionnaires for programs of study, student services, seminars, alumni surveys and more. The integrated norm and benchmarking options, PDF feedback reports, and quality management views give you all you need for the implementation of enterprise-wide feedback reporting. Class Climate's ability to operate with an imaging scanner (including Scantron's new Clarity Imaging/OMR scanner) allows it to capture comments directly from paper and insert them into a report.
